An Historic Backdrop
Peckforton Castle is over 170 years old and has an illustrious history. It was commissioned by John Tollemache and built in the nineteenth century between 1844 and 1850. Costing £60,000 to build, Peckforton Castle is a country house built in the style of a medieval castle. It was first used as a home by the Tollemache family and later as a hostel for children during WW2. The first wedding at Peckforton Castle took place in the middle of the twentieth century when George W. Barrett lived at Peckforton and arranged for his daughter to get married in the on-site chapel. A special decree was obtained from the Archbishop of Canterbury thus allowing the castle to legally hold a Catholic wedding.
As the years passed Peckforton Castle was then mainly used as a location for shooting films and TV shows. Productions that have been shot here include Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes. It is now the only medieval castle in the UK which is still intact. In 2006 it was purchased by the Naylor family who then developed Peckforton into a wedding venue. They continue to run the castle today.
One Of The Best Wedding Venues In Cheshire
The majesty of the castle and the surrounding woodland provide an incredible backdrop for a Peckforton Castle wedding video. The high ceilings, red carpets and decadent rooms all add to the enchanted charm for its guests and make Peckforton Castle a dream place to film weddings at. Similar to The Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey, natural light is quite limited throughout the venue which requires your photographer and Peckforton Castle wedding videographer to have a good knowledge of camera exposures and light.
Drinks receptions can be held on the castle’s lawn and you can even have a trained owl fly down the aisle mid-ceremony to deliver your wedding rings. We’ve been lucky enough to video weddings in The Great Hall, The Hexagonal Room, The Drawing Room and The Chapel and we know all the best locations for shots. That said there is still always something new to be found every time we go back.
Peckforton reminds me a little of West Tower which is another castle-like venue in the north west albeit quite a bit smaller! In addition to the venue itself, Peckforton Castle is ran by a team of excellent wedding coordinators. They are always on hand to ensure your day runs as smoothly as possible. They are experienced in delivering a huge range of weddings and can cater to your every need.
If you are interested in having Peckforton Castle play host to your big day then get in touch with them to book a show round appointment.
